While Paris dictated the rhythms of the European avant-garde, Spain developed its own declination of impressionism, rooted in the Iberian landscape and in the chromatic strength of Mediterranean light. Joaquรญn Sorolla, with his canvases flooded with sun and marine reflections, embodies this luminescent sensitivity better than anyone else; Darรญo de Regoyos instead brings a more intimate and melancholic look, nourished by direct contact with the Belgian painters of the Groupe des XX; Aureliano de Beruete, spiritual student of Velรกzquez and interpreter of the Castilian landscape, translates the Iberian plain into tonal vibrations of rare sobriety.
