Polignano is famous for its old town built on a cliff-hedge over a spectacular stretch of the Adriatic Sea, South of the regional capital of Apulia, Bari. With a history that goes back to the times of the Greek colony of Neapolis and a station on the Roman Via Traiana, of which the bridge just before entering the town from the North is still in use.The coast features many sea caves and lame, the result of the erosion of rainwater over the limestone surface of the soil. In one of these seacaves, just underneath the old town, is hosted a famous restaurant “La Grotta Palazzese”, with amazing views towards the town and over the sea.
