Tate Modern is one of the four Tate museums and the one specialising in modern and contemporary art. It is also Britain’s national gallery for international modern art and one of the most popular art galleries in London, open to all with free access seven days a week for the permanent displays, while charging for temporary exhibitions. Hosted in the building that was once the Bankside Power Station, the art gallery features one of the largest collections in the world of modern and contemporary art.
Between old and new
The refurbishment of the old Power Station, closed in 1981, has been a major project for the Bankside area, carried out by the architect firm Herzog & de Meuron at a cost of £134 million and was completed in January 2000. The original building of the Bankside Power Station has been complemented in 2016 by the construction of a ten-floor tower, the Blavatnick Building, built over the oil tanks of the original power station and connected by bridges to the main building. This tower now hosts additional exhibition space, along with a spectacular terrace on the 10th floor, overlooking the Thames and with beautiful views over central London.

The main collection is displayed not in chronological order but according to big thematic arrangements, currently covering eight big areas:

- Living Cities
Posted here is a little collection of the gallery paintings I like and I always find pleasurable to locate and admire during my regular visits. It transpires I have a predilection for optical art and abstract art, which is also the source of inspiration for my digital and traditional paintings.

One of my favourite places to visit in London. When lockdown is over, I cannot wait to wander eastwards along the South bank!
It is such a nice walk now on the Southbank, with many attractions and quiet corners
