On April 24, 2026, Bridget Riley turns 95: an extraordinary milestone for the British painter who revolutionised visual perception in the twentieth century. Born in London in 1931, Riley is a central figure of the Op Art of the Sixties, a movement that transforms geometry into pure optical energy. Since 1961 he has been working with elementary shapes – lines, circles, curves, squares – capable of generating vibrations and illusory movement. In 1967 he introduced colour, opening a new creative season inspired by trips to Egypt and India. First British artist and first woman to receive the International Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennale in 1968, her work continues to question the gaze with inexhaustible rigour.
