La réalité étant trop épineuse pour mon grand caractère, — je me trouvai néanmoins chez ma dame, en gros oiseau gris bleu s’essorant vers les moulures du plafond et traînant l’aile dans les ombres de la soirée.

Je fus au pied du baldaquin supportant ses bijoux adorés et ses chefs-d’œuvre physiques, un gros ours aux gencives violettes et au poil chenu de chagrin, les yeux aux cristaux et aux argents des consoles.

Tout se fit ombre et aquarium ardent. Au matin, — aube de juin batailleuse, — je courus aux champs, âne, claironnant et brandissant mon grief, jusqu’à ce que les Sabines de la banlieue vinrent se jeter à mon poitrail.

I stood at the foot of the canopy supporting her adored jewels and her physical masterpieces, a big bear with purple gums and hair grayed by sorrow, my eyes reflecting the crystals and silver of the sconces.

Everything became shadow and a fiery aquarium. In the morning—a combative June dawn—I ran to the fields, a donkey, trumpeting and brandishing my grievance, until the Sabine women of the suburbs came to throw themselves upon my chest.

Como la realidad resultaba demasiado espinosa para mi gran temperamento, me encontré, sin embargo, en casa de mi señora, convertido en un gran pájaro gris azulado que se elevaba hacia las molduras del techo y arrastraba el ala entre las sombras del atardecer.

Estaba a los pies del dosel que sostenía sus adoradas joyas y sus obras maestras físicas, un gran oso de encías moradas y pelaje canoso de pena, con los ojos de cristal y plata de las consolas.

Todo se convirtió en sombra y en un acuario ardiente. Por la mañana —amanecer de junio combativo—, corrí hacia los campos, como un burro, tocando la trompeta y blandiendo mi agravio, hasta que las sabinas de los suburbios vinieron a arrojarse sobre mi pecho.
