Se depois de eu morrer, quiserem escrever a minha biografia, 
Não há nada mais simples
Tem só duas datas — a da minha nascença e a da minha morte. 
Entre uma e outra todos os dias são meus.

Sou fácil de definir.
Vi como um danado.
Amei as coisas sem sentimento nenhum. 
Nunca tive um desejo que não pudesse realizar, porque nunca ceguei. 
Mesmo ouvir nunca foi para mim senão um acompanhamento de ver. 
Compreendi que as coisas são reais e todas diferentes umas das outras; 
Compreendi isto com os olhos, nunca com o pensamento. 
Compreender isto com o pensamento seria achá-las todas iguais. 

Um dia deu-me o sono como a qualquer criança. 
Fechei os olhos e dormi. 
Além disso, fui o unico poeta da Natureza.

If, after I die, you want to write my biography,
There is nothing simpler.
There are only two dates — my birth and my death.
Between them, every day is mine.

I am easy to define.
I saw like a devil.
I loved things without feeling.
I never had a desire I couldn't fulfil, because I was never blind.
Even hearing was never anything more than an accompaniment to seeing for me.
I understood that things are real and all different from each other;
I understood this with my eyes, never with my mind.
To understand this with my mind would be to find them all the same.

One day I felt sleepy, like any child.
I closed my eyes and slept.
Besides, I was the only poet of Nature.

Se dopo la mia morte vorranno scrivere la mia biografia, 
«Non c’è niente di più semplice». 
Ci sono solo due date: 
quella della mia nascita e quella della mia morte. 
«Tra l’una e l’altra, tutti i giorni sono miei».

 «Sono facile da definire». 
Ho visto come un pazzo. 
Ho amato le cose senza alcun sentimento. 
Non ho mai avuto un desiderio che non potessi realizzare, perché non sono mai stato cieco. 

Anche l'udito non è mai stato per me altro che un accompagnamento alla vista. 
Ho compreso che le cose sono reali e tutte diverse l'una dall'altra; l'ho compreso con gli occhi, mai con il pensiero. 

Capirlo con il pensiero significherebbe trovarle tutte uguali. 
Un giorno mi è venuto sonno come a qualsiasi bambino. 
Ho chiuso gli occhi e ho dormito. 
Inoltre, sono stato l'unico poeta della Natura.
